Merson's transfer ratings
Anyone seen this? I know he's biased but he gave Arsenal a B when all their fans are going mental. He rated us the same which is ridiculous. Talksport were making the point that Barcelona have made more signings and they've got an embargo!

Exactly...

Merson is not employed for his insightful knowledge. I think he is there purely for entertainment value, and coming out with a load of old bollocks!

I like MERSE.

proper player, too.

Merson couldn't give a fuck what anyone thinks. He is asked to do his final standings and he has done it. At the end of the season if Palace get relegated and we come 5th he will be reminded of his pathetic standings. And all he will do is sit there and stroke his piece saying "So fucking what?"

I couldn't give a fuck what teams win...I just don't like clubs that are predominately suppoorted by glory hunters.

That pretty much sums up Arsenal...

Re: Merson's transfer ratings
Can remember when they lost the first home game to Villa a couple of seasons back and there was booing and empty seats by the end and the commentator saying this was their first home defeat for a year or thereabouts.
I would love one of these teams (ideally Spurs or Chelsea) to lose about 10 in a row and be bumping along in the bottom 3 just to see the meltdown and multiple heads exploding.

Well on Sky Sports today he has predicted us to finish around 14th and Palace 5th! He has his favourites I give him that much.

It's all relative, I'm sure some millwall would give their left bollock (Neil Harris aside) for some of the bad years we've had, Southend that don't know what millwall are moaning about, Braintree Southend etc etc

I worked with this Gooner a few years back, and he said to me with no hint of irony...

"Yeah, I supported us when we was shit…….I remember Luton beating us first game of the season in 1983"…

My heart bled for the poor fucker..

I know a few long term Man City fans who have gone from being balanced and realistic to insufferably entitled in a few short seasons.

I trust this will not happen in East London when we are finally elevated to the big time.

Quite right, you're not wong.

Re: Merson's transfer ratings
Yup- I figured that, but I do know what you mean. There's definitely less dislike for Arsenal than the other 'big' lot aside from City. I just reckon to a lot of people they are a slightly lesser evil.

I always want them to win against Chelsea, Spurs, Man U or Liverpool, if I care enough to watch the games....

BTW You're probably right about my mates going through 'hard times' as Arsenal fans too, in all honesty. Wasn't much furrowing or brows when they were winning league titles and trophies regularly...

Valid points Monk-koknee....

Still no need for sections of our support to suck Gooner cock! ;-)

El Scorchio,

I'm not specifically aiming the comment at you.....just our support in general...

Re: Merson's transfer ratings
The thing about Arsenal is that it is a very well run club that doesn't rely on a mega-rich benefactor to recruit players at outrageous prices. They also play good football even though, if you were one of their supporters, you might want them to mix it up a little.

Re: Merson's transfer ratings
I hate Arsenal, but I just find them slightly less cunty (at the moment) than Chelsea, Man U, Liverpool and Spurs.

I'm sure it's the same for most others. There's no love in, but by default they are not as bad as some others.

Man City are the only one of the 'top' teams I don't dislike, and wish defeat on in almost every match they play.

Spot on!

I don't understand this love in we have with Arsenal, either.

It's like being at school. Arsenal & Tottenham are the school bullies, and we suck up to Arsenal because they are the hardest and they'll stick up for us against the nasty Tottenham...

"Gamblers don't lose because they get the results wrong eh?"

It's not that they get results wrong, as such. They bet of matches hoping something that will probably not happen, does in fact happen...against the odds. Not quite the same as getting the results wrong.

Still a mugs game, though.

I don't think Alex V genuinely believes half the shit he writes.
I think it's a gamble itself. I believe as he types from blank...an opinion is formed at random. Like a roll of a dice.

Re: Merson's transfer ratings
I think the guy is thick, generally a crap pundit offering little insight & his reasoning & opinions can change with the wind & or with the amount he may have drunk that day.

However, his reasoning on most of what he says in this particular article is generally OK.

IMO I would say he has Palace about 3/4 places too high & the same with Villa being about 4 places too high. Other than that I'd agree with what he's put.

With WH, I'd say10th is about the best we can hope for & expect & 14th should be the worst with the squad we now have after Monday.

Hopefully our home form will pick up with the recent added options & if so that might get us to 10th rather than his predicted 14th.

>>> Gamblers don't lose because they get the results wrong eh?

I said 'not necessarily'. It's very likely of little importance with a losing gambler. As I say, other factors are usually the bigger reasons.
